The company Opel was founded in Rüsselsheim, Germany, in 1862 by Adam Opel. At the beginning was a manufacturer of bicycles but shifted its interest to automobiles and manufactured their first vehicle in 1899. From 1929 until 2017 Opel was owned by American automaker General Motors (GM). Since 1 August 2017 Opel is part of Groupe PSA. Opel is still one of the largest automobile manufacturers in Europe and sell vehicles in more than 50 countries around the globe. Opel’s most popular models in Europe include Corsa, Astra (manufactured in Poland), Adam, Mokka, Zafira, Meriva, Insignia, Combo, Vivaro, Movano. In Great Britain Opel vehicles are sold under the brand of Vauxhall.

In Poland there is large net of authorised Opel dealers and the central warehouse for Opel original spare parts (genuine spare parts in genuine packing). It looks like Poland may be considered as an interesting source of some original Opel auto parts (OE, OEM, OES) for international trade of automotive genuine spare parts. Due to production of Astra model in Gliwice also many Tier 1 suppliers of spare parts for Opel located their factories in Poland.
